Mexico Architecture Mexico was originally inhabited since the pre-Columbian period by many different groups of people such as the Olmecs, the Toltecs, the Mayans, and the Aztecs. Each of these people had a unique culture and architecture.

The Spanish came in 1521 and colonized Mexico for 300 years. During that time many cities emerged with Spanish colonial architecture and there was a large influence from the Franciscan and Dominican orders.

Today, there is much to see in the well-preserved downtown districts of many of these cities.
