<p>The Spanish came in 1521 and colonized Mexico for 300 years.  During that time many cities emerged with Spanish colonial architecture and there was a large influence from the Franciscan and Dominican orders.</p>
<p>Today, there is much to see in the well-preserved downtown districts of many of these cities. </p>
